Maeglin's Bio

maeglin_2023Maeglin Lómion was the son of Aredhel (Fingolfin's daughter) and Eöl (a dark Elf). He was born in the Forest of Nan Elmoth, and Eöl named him Maeglin (sharp glance). Aredhel named him Lómion (child of the twilight in Quenya). They lived there until his mother escaped with him and reached Gondolin. They stole Eöl's sword, Anguirel. When Eöl came for Maeglin, and he refused to go back, Eöl tried to kill him, but the posioned dart hit Aredhel, who died a few days later. Eol was sentenced to death and cast down from the city walls.
He was taken in by Turgon and grew to become the lord of the House of the Mole. He mined extensively, and forged weapons of steel. He made the Gate of Steel of Gondolin. He fought alongside Turgon in the Nirnaed Arnoediad. He fell in love with Idril but it was a forbidden love as they were close kin. When she married Tuor, and Eärendil was born, Maeglin grew bitter.
He was captured by Orcs while mining outside the city and taken to Angband. He was threatened by Melkor with terrible torment, and in the end he betrayed Gondolin's location to the Dark Vala. Melkor also promised him Idril's hand to make sure that Maglin would not tell anyone about it. When Melkor and his host attacked Gondolin, Maeglin tried to take Idril and kill Eärendil, but Tuor stopped him and killed him. Maeglin was only 190 years when he died.
